Just open box and hang it on the wall...makes a perfect gift! Milo Garret, a private eye in search of who scarred him for life and Megan Dietrich, a tough-talking gal with a chip on her shoulder and the money to prop it up...and Agent Graves. An old man walks up to you - it doesn’t matter where, possibly on the train, a dive bar, a basketball court, maybe even your home - and offers you a chance to set things right, to get payback for the one thing that went wrong in your life, to punish the person responsible. Your tools for your mission, should you choose to accept it: an attache case, with a gun and 100 Bullets, conclusive, irrefutable proof of what happened, and total immunity against any criminal prosecution. And then, the 100-projectile question: what would you do? That old man is Agent Graves. "I try to stay away from doing 'panel covers,'" Dave Johnson told an audience at San Francisco's WonderCon in February 2009, "I don't want a cover to look just like panels in a book. I'm always trying to do something a little different. What's a graphic element I can pull out and put on this cover?" Johnson's covers for the long running Vertigo series 100 Bullets exemplify his eclectic design sensibility, combining elements drawn from pulp novels, 1950s jazz-album covers, and old-school movie posters to create a unique look that perfectly matched the tone of the title. "Good covers don't have to have everything and the kitchen sink. It doesn't have to have tons of detail to be good. I've always kind of approached covers like billboards. I was taught in art school that a good billboard should be readable within ten seconds or less, because you're driving. And I kind of took that same approach with covers. The more graphic I could make it and the less amount of colors, it's going to pop off the stands a little bit more."- Dave Johnson. 100 Bullets is an Eisner and Harvey Award-winning comic book written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Eduardo Risso. It was published in the United States by DC Comics under its Vertigo imprint and ran for 100 issues. The writing and artwork received critical acclaim during the course of its run. The core concept of 100 Bullets is based on the question of people willing to act on the desire of violent revenge if given the means, opportunity, and a reasonable chance to succeed. In each issue, the mysterious Agent Graves approaches someone who has been a victim of a terrible wrong. Graves gives them the opportunity to take revenge by providing a handgun, 100 bullets, and documentation about the primary target responsible for their woes. He informs the candidate the bullets are completely untraceable by any law enforcement investigation. Although all the revenge murders enabled by Agent Graves are presented as justifiable, the candidates are neither rewarded or punished for accepting the offer other than their own personal satisfaction. Several people decline, but others who accept find varied success or failure. The attaché and Graves' "games" are later revealed to be only a minor part of a much broader story. On June 23, 2011, IGN reported that David S. Goyer co-writer of Dark City and The Dark Knight was attached to executive produce and write a TV series based on the comics for Showtime. However, in a June 2013 interview with Ain't It Cool News, Goyer stated that the project got "incredibly close" at Showtime before being turned down due to a multitude of mass shootings across the United States. He called the sudden turn of events "frustrating", further stating, "At one point, I thought it was going to happen at Showtime. It got to the three-yard line." The series won the 2002 Harvey Awards for Best Writer, Best Artist and Best Continuing Series, and the 2003 Harvey Award for Best Artist, as well as the 2001 Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story, and the 2002 and 2004 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series. At the EmeraldCity Con on March 1, 2013, Vertigo editor Mark Doyle announced that the franchise's creative team have joined forces once again to work on a miniseries. Scheduled to release in June 2013, Brother Lono details Lono's apparent survival after the events of 100 Bullets issue #100. An officially ordained Methodist Deacon. "Reverend" Dave Johnson may be best known for his minimalist covers on the noir Vertigo series, 100 Bullets. He has done all 100 covers. He has also done a number of covers for DC Comics, primarily Batman and Detective Comics. Dave also worked with Erik Larsen on the mini-series Superpatriot: Liberty & Justice. He is also known for his work with Marvel on Deadpool. Dave is the principal founder of "Drink and Draw", a get-together of professional artists that spawned an art book by the same name. Mr. Johnson earned the 2002 Eisner Award for Best Cover Artist. He was also nominated for an Eisner in 2004 for his work on the critically acclaimed DC Elseworlds miniseries Superman: Red Son, which is now a perennial best seller in graphic novel form.
